Local Hero: Mary Luckhardt
Mary Luckhardt invariably does what it takes to make English Country dancing happen in the Bay Area. Most recently, as dance manager of our Berkeley Wednesday ECDs, she's been coping with a sticky floor problem by arriving at the church early to spot mop and buff the floor, occasionally spreading cornmeal or cornstarch to alleviate the stickiness, after which she teaches the beginners' introduction to English dance.
Mary also serves as BACDS's membership chair, coordinates the financial worksheets for BACDS's nine dance series and special events, archives the dance programs for our five English dances, and organizes carpools from the East Bay to South Bay and North Bay English dances. An invaluable member of BACDS's camp committees, Mary has managed our Mendocino English Dance and Music Week and currently is handling finances for our Hey Days English Dance Week, as well as both managing and handling finances for our Fall Frolick English Dance Weekend. If all this weren't enough of a contribution, a few years ago our indefatigable Ms. Luckhardt joined the ranks of BACDS's English dance teachers; on March 28, 2015, she will emcee her first Playford Ball.
